Inspired by the painting “The Dance”

One of Henri Matisse’s many famous paintings, "Dance" is a masterclass on colour. Matisse loved playing with colours and in the original painting bright red brings the dancers to life, deep green the earth, and blue the sky. The painter seemed to be attracted by primitivism, with the figures appearing prehistoric and moving in such a way that suggests a trancelike, hedonistic, and bacchanalian state.

Our version brings this euphoria into a context familiar to us all. A celebration, full of live instruments, music, and dancing. A Cretan lyra and a handkerchief inspires memories of traditional sounds and beloved places, creating the emotional intensity from Matisse’s original piece.
