The highly detailed figures in Grant Wood’s "American Gothic" were inspired by Flemish Renaissance art. Grant deeply appreciated the Midwestern culture and traditions, and tried to make them a theme in his artworks. Here we see a father farmer and his daughter standing next to him. They both look serious and a bit suspicious.
In our version of the artwork, all farmlife objects have been replaced with flowers and the faces now appear smiling. Nowadays, the way we think about farmlife has changed, with young people often turning to off-the-grid living as a choice, for a more relaxed and happier lifestyle, closer to nature.
